About us

Our growing area

Our cultivation areas cover 4 different locations with partly diverse slope orientations.

On the steep southern slopes of Bolzano, we have perfect climatic conditions with warm air masses rising from the Bolzano basin and cool streams from the Eisack valley.

Combined with our skeletal soils made of quartz porphyry, we have an excellent habitat for our old grapevines. Thus, we extract the maximum flavor and quality from the different varieties.

Our winery-Perlhof, formerly Oberperlhof in Obern Leitach

The Perlhof, formerly known as Oberperlhof, was first mentioned in documents in 1545 and owned by Hanns Perl in Leitach.

In the following centuries, the Perlhof was sold several times, and thus had multiple owners.

In 1959, Emil Nüesch, a wine merchant from Balgach, bought the Perlhof, and in 1998, his daughter Elisabeth Nüesch Antoniazza took over the farm.

In 2015, Elisabeth Nüesch handed over the winery to Martin Thurner.

Our family history - The Thurners on the Tschögglberg and the Thurners in Oberleitach with their coat of arms

The oldest ancestor of the Thurner clan was discovered to be Hanns Thurner, who lived at the Thurnerhof in Jenesien and was a judge in 1543.

The Thurnerhof is named after an old tower that stood until 1895 and was about 15 steps away from the farmstead. This tower is also symbolically represented in the Thurner coat of arms.

The Thurners at Thurnerhof were entrusted with the judgeship several times. Udalrici (Ulrich) Thurner, successor to Hanns Thurner, was a judge in Jenesien in 1648. He and his brother Christian were awarded the coat of arms on June 3, 1648, by Archduke Ferdinand Karl (1646-1662).

Josef Thurner, who worked on the Steigmannhof in Unterplatten, his son Martin Thurner, and his sons Maximilian and Alexander from Perlhof, are direct descendants of Christian Thurner, who was awarded the coat of arms by Archduke Ferdinand Karl.
